The Postcard Project 💌 Part Three
Few projects have captivated me like The Postcard Project, even after all my years in magazines. Each postcard—a few dozen so far—reveals what ageing truly looks like for women 50+ today. It's been a joy to connect with these remarkable women and watch new networks bloom across Substack.
Each story is different and adds to the bigger picture of women redefining aging on their own terms, challenging outdated expectations one postcard at a time.
What’s really impressed me—what’s particularly contagious—is seeing their resilience, their resolve, and their artful navigation around stereotypes. Somehow it gives all of us a green light to follow their lead, go off-road, and become ageing dissidents ourselves.
It's also cultural. As we reinvent what's possible after 50, 60, and beyond, we're changing ageing forever for those coming after us.
The Postcard Project began with a simple call-out to women doing ageing 'their way'. Having just launched Road Trip to Younger, it was already buzzing with kick-arse women in their 50s and beyond who, far from slowing down, seemed to be just starting to rev up.
Nothing prepared me for the torrent of stories that followed... let alone the party and cheer squad. I knew I had to honour the stories and chronicle the amazing women. So I created The Postcard Project—'postcards from the road'—as part of the Ageing in Colour issue.
As with Part One and Part Two, in Part Three, we see adversity becoming springboards to new passions, women revisiting interrupted dreams, and a palpable sense of freedom as they shake off shackles that bound earlier generations.

Thanks as always for being here.
Much love,
Hi Brodie, I've loved reading all these inspiring postcards. At 57, I've discovered that embracing adventure transforms how we experience getting older and makes every chapter worth celebrating. While chronic fatigue has limited me the last few years, adopting an adventurous mindset has helped me thrive—enjoying local adventures, publishing a book about midlife friendships, and discovering the joy of slow travel in my campervan. That's why I've just started my new Substack publication, 'Adventurous Ageing'.
love this project!
