I’ve been buying EVOO but didn’t realize why! Amazing that they stoped the study, too.

Great question Patty! I

The great thing about EVOO is that it's already passed a few tests to be able to get its EVOO designation, including no chemicals or heat, and even taste/smell tests!.

The key thing is freshness which often means the more local the better (Tuscany can be a long way from home). Look for bottles with a harvest date rather than just an expiration date!

In Australia, the best in my books is Cobram Estate -- loads of international awards and available at most supermarkets.

Yep! Buy Aussie local EVOO and store it properly. I’m half Italian so this good oil runs through my veins. I had no idea about that study Brodee so thank you! I started taking a spoonful before bed last light so finding this and you is serendipitous! Thank you. Anita xx

Don’t you love it when that happens — the universe aligning. You’re all over it! Best timing, actually, if you want to be a nerd: with vegetables! A splash unleashes more nutrients. I drizzle it on morning steamed broccoli. (I know, NERRD!) ◡̈

I splash it with gay abandon too 😂. The great high heat frying debate is one that’s still won’t go away in my household. But I’m holding my line!

Great article!! I’ve gone between the NO salt, oil , sugar people like Dr Michael Greger and Dr Neal Barnard (love them both,) and the EVOO uber alis group and I have to say I love evoo!! Now I’ll just mix it with my red wine (kidding!!)

I’ve used it for years, although in the 80s and 90s I was a no fats cook. No salt either. Then I met my dear Pat, and the rest is Italian cooking history.

Kate, yes! Same. Fat barely touched my lips for a decade. It was seen as the enemy. I sometimes wonder if that contributed to my later osteoporosis diagnosis, which I've now wrestled into the corner. I'm a full fat girl all the way now. So much more satiating and less processed / fewer UPFs.

Consuming my fair share of EVOO right now in Italia. I wonder if there is a suggested maximum daily intake.

Dr Mary Flynn, Brown University — one of the leading EVOO experts — told me she prescribes 6-8 tbs a day to older patients. Keep chugging!

This is full of useful

Info that I love, because EVOO is a staple in our house! We buy it from a small finca in Italy that I feel very happy to support.

Oh wonderful! Supporting a small finca just makes it even better! Any favourite ways to use EVOO we can add to our list Jane? Are you a baker that uses EVOO?

Jane Duncan Rogers's avatar

I’m not a baker really. I think my favourite is simply it and lemon juice on my salad.

Adore extra virgin olive oil. So good with fresh bread and dukkah.

But I also use ghee for stir-fry or high temp cooking.

Friends, In case you've missed this in the thread below. Anita from Midlife Unfiltered mentions she's had some push back on using EVOO in all her cooking. If you have a naysayer in your life, this might help settle the argument once and for all ◡̈
